PROJECTS & PROGRAMS

The Whitebark Institute has been awarded funding under three grants to undertake wildfire prevention and preparedness work. The first grant is from Southern California Edison and will fund outreach and education around defensible space and home hardening concepts in Mammoth Lakes during the summer of 2022. The other two grants are both through the CAL FIRE Fire Prevention program. One project is to develop community wildfire protection plans (CWPPs) for the communities of 40 Acres and Independence. That project will be completed in early 2024. The other project is to conduct fuel reductions in and around the community of 40 Acres. This grant will be completed in early 2025.  Anyone wishing more information about any of these projects is encouraged to contact Holly Alpert (holly@whitebarkinstitute.org).
